Colon Cleanse Advice please?

Hey there, my mom is considering doing a colon cleanse w/the Acai brand- does anybody know anything about this?  She had a scare right before Christmas- she had a blockage in her intestine which caused her to be in the hospital for a few days, and she would like to do a colon cleanse once in a while to keep her system clean.  Is this a good kind to use?  Or do you know something that is better?  Above all, I want her to be safe, and she asked my advice, so I said I would ask yours, since I have so many smart buddies!  Thanks!!

They had a report on it in the Consummer Watch last week in Canada. Basically it’s a scam which has nothing to do with physiology, all to do with scheming. A cheap fiber suppliment will do the same as the products they are marketing for exhuberant prices with a bunch of lies thrown in.

I’m not familiar with any of this Betsy, but I did also hear that those berries are better off for the birds. Wish I could help ya out there. Maybe Nancy will have some good advice or can ask her boss. She should be getting to blogs shortly.

Darn my boss is busy but I think it’s a scam if the berries are not fresh or dry. If it’s the pill form - no no - no Acai berry pills or drinks!!!!

    The cleanse - I think it’s a gimmick girl.

I am NOT a doctor. But, I am confident in the opinion I have formed after talking to my own physician, and doing some of my own research on the subject as well.

Colon cleanses are a scam, totally! Nearly all of them contain chemicals which interact with liquid to form “interesting” bowel movements which the vendors of these cleanses often claim is something called mucoid plaque. Mucoid plaque has never been proven to exist inside the intestine.

The best thing to do is eat a high fiber diet, for colon and intestinal health.

The medical establishment (IE, the people who are the most qualified and educated about our bodies) nearly universally agree that the colon does NOT need help to do its job, except in very extreme cases. In these extreme cases, enemas and pill based cleansers are never the answer, but rather natural remedies (like a high fiber diet) or surgery usually is.

The sad thing about these cleanses and enemas, is that in a person with colon/intestinal issues, these scam remedies almost always do more harm than good.

You can google this stuff, too, see if you can find ANY shot of a colon or intestine where the walls are not completely pink and smooth. The hucksters selling this crap will have you believe that people get “impacted feces” in their intestinal walls, its just not true.
