I need some “sweet” feedback!
Hey Buddies,
What are your preferences for sweetners? I have used everything in recent years; sweet n low, equal, splenda…I’m currently using sugar in the raw, and I like it; however I’m wondering if it’s better to use honey? I don’t even use much; just a packet in my tea and a packet in my oatmeal on days that I have that. What are your thoughts? favorites?
I have heard so many conflicting stories about the dangers of artifical sweetners I dont know which ones are true and which ones are not. I sweeten my coffee every morning, and I just use plain sugar. It really depends on how much you use, the calories can really add up if you use very much.
I actually like Stevia. It’s plant derived and is way more potent then regular sugar. The only thing is, for some it leaves a weird after taste. It doesn’t for me, but I have heard complaints from a few people.

Also, I work in a hair salon and we use sweet and low to numb the scalp so hair color doesn’t itch. Just something to think about when dealing with artificial sweeteners.

Hmmm, I didn’t really notice how much I don’t use sweeteners until you got me thinking about it. I guess I just use regular sugar just because I don’t use that much for it to make a difference. I put honey in my tea…coffee is black…and oatmeal is plain. Maybe cinnamon on your oatmeal? Do you think that you use enough sugar for it to make a difference?
I have to honestly say I do not trust artificial sweetners and I dont drink diet soda, I know the sacrin (in sweet and low) causes cancer in lab mice so, ya know it cant be good.
I use regular sugar in my coffee and just make sure I dont over do it.
I hear Splenda is made from sugar, but you know it is so over processed, I am just really nervous about putting so much over processed crap in the body.
Great question though, and I think you got a good thing with the raw sugar, I love using that too
Peace,
Leah♥
Thanks for the feedback- I know there are issues w/artificial sweetners…but at the same time, white refined sugar is just as bad. But I think the sugar in the raw is probably my best bet. I have heard other people talk about Stevia and know a few people who use it, but it’s super expensive! So anyway, I appreciate all the input!
I use Splenda in my coffee. Since I’m a sugar addict in every sense of the word, I have to be careful with the honey, but use it sometimes in hot tea. I’ve tried Stevia, but it seems TOO sweet, ya know?
Huggggggggggggs,
Shan
I stopped using Splenda and sugar now unless it’s in the food already or my brother puts it in my food. I say honey is the best alternative.
Why did I stop using? Because it’s not good for you. I use to love Splenda but it’s really not good for you.
Sorry Shan - I used to be a Splenda lover like packs and packs of it.
Betsy girl, the less you use, the more natural sugar taste better and good for you…ie in fruits and what not.
Darn thing asked me for a weird code! BS is funny sometimes.
I think Agave and Stevia are best and you do not need a lot at all. Those with immune issues might consider avoiding stevia with inulin. Though it is best to limit sweets I think life is short and we can sweeten things and still be healthy. It is good to avoid all others is my opinion. All the best.
Raw sugar, honey and maple syrup are my treat sweets. Once in awhile…
Hey Bets! I prefer Splenda the most. At work I suffer through the pink packets, but I only use 1 in my coffee so I don’t feel too bad about. Good luck on your search! (I personally don’t like honey at all)
There’s a new product out there called Truvia. It is derived from the Stevia plant. I haven’t tried it yet so I don’t know how it tastes. It might be cheaper though than Stevia. Honey is great but be careful if you use it a lot and have young kids. It is unsafe for babies under a year old.
Stevia is nice. I use pure maple syrup a lot, too, but I’m usually just sweetening hot cereal or something like that. I like honey, too. I don’t like the taste of artificial sweeteners, even the ones that claim no aftertaste taste awful to me.
I dunno..I don’t really add sugar to anything I eat anymore. I used to add sugar to the flavored Quaker Oat Meal…(before dieting) then I realized…thing stuff already has sugar. I slowly weaned myself off of that then.
Sorry…but I don’t really use any of that…lol
My fave is splenda, especially the brown sugar one
I am pretty sure I read that honey is the better choice. I took myself off the artificial sweeteners..very rarely use it now.
I really do think if a person could wean themself off sugar completely, we would be better off. I think once you are off of it for awhile, your body stops craving it. For me…I’m like, ya right!!!!!
renee68 you are funny- it’s really strange how even if we don’t add it to stuff, we still end up eating it in everyday foods- it’s unreal where it will show up!
